Privacy Policy for Five Prayers
Last Updated: July 17, 2026
Developer: Noor23 LLC
This Privacy Policy describes how Five Prayers ("the App", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our mobile application.
Five Prayers has no accounts and no sign-up. It contains no advertising and no analytics trackers. Your prayer records and settings are stored on your device, and are not uploaded to us.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
Prayer Tracking Data
- Prayer completion status (on-time, late, missed, excused)
- Congregation and masjid attendance records
- Prayer statistics and streaks
- Related tracking you choose to use: wudu, qada (make-up prayers), fasting, and sunnah/nafl prayers
Settings and Preferences
- Gender selection (brother/sister)
- Calculation method preferences
- Display preferences (theme, language, notification sounds)
- Notification settings
Feedback (Optional)
When you choose to submit feedback through the app, we collect:
- Your feedback message and type (bug report, feature request, general)
- Screenshots or videos you choose to attach (optional; never accessed without your explicit selection)
- Your email address, only if you choose to provide it — used solely to reply to your feedback, never for marketing or any other purpose
- An anonymous device identifier (a UUID generated on your device)
- Device information (platform, OS version, screen dimensions)
- Relevant app settings for troubleshooting
If we answer your feedback, the reply may be delivered inside the app: after you have submitted feedback, the app checks our feedback service about once a day (using only the anonymous device identifier) for a waiting reply, and shows it on your device. Devices that have never submitted feedback make no such check.
Flight Search (Optional, Supporter Feature)
If you use the Flight prayer times feature, the flight number and date you enter are sent to our own service, which forwards them to a third-party flight data provider to look up your route. See Section 4.5. Your identity and your device identifier are not sent with this request.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
Location Data
- GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude) when you enable location services
- City and country name derived from your coordinates
- This data is used to calculate prayer times and Qibla direction
Device Information
- Device type (iPhone, iPad, or Android phone/tablet)
- Operating system version
- Screen dimensions
Device information is collected only when you submit feedback, to help us reproduce the problem you are reporting.
1.3 Information We Do NOT Collect
- Personal identification (name, phone number; email only if you choose to give it with feedback)
- Account credentials — the app has no accounts
- Payment information — purchases are handled by Apple or Google
- Contacts or address book
- Photos or media — except a screenshot or video you explicitly pick to attach to feedback
- Browsing history
- Social media accounts
- Advertising identifiers
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Calculate Prayer Times: Your location is used to determine prayer times based on your geographic position and selected calculation method
- Determine Qibla Direction: Your location is used to calculate the direction to the Kaaba in Mecca
- Track Your Prayers: Prayer status data is stored locally on your device to display statistics and streaks
- Personalize Your Experience:Settings and preferences customize the app's appearance and behavior
- Improve the App: Feedback helps us identify bugs and prioritize new features
3. Data Storage and Security
3.1 Local Storage
All prayer tracking data, settings, and preferences are stored locally on your device using storage mechanisms provided by your device's operating system (iOS or Android). This data is:
- Never uploaded to our servers (except optional feedback)
- On iOS: included in your device backups (iCloud/iTunes), including automatic daily backup files the app saves to its Documents folder
- On Android: excluded from system backups (the app opts out of Android Backup)
- Deleted when you uninstall the app
Your device's own protections (such as your passcode and the operating system's file protection) are what guard this data at rest. The app does not add a separate layer of encryption on top of them.
3.2 Data You Can Export
The app allows you to export your prayer data to a .salat file, which you can:
- Save to your files
- Share with other devices
- Use as a personal backup
Each record in an exported file carries an identifier for the device that created it. This identifier stays on your device and is never sent to us — but it is contained in any .salat file you choose to share, so please keep that in mind when sharing one.
3.3 Data Retention
- Local Data: Retained until you delete it or uninstall the app
- GPS Location: Retained on-device for up to 30 days, then refreshed or cleared when a new GPS fix is obtained
- Manually Entered Location: Retained on-device for up to 90 days, then refreshed or cleared when you re-enter a location
- Feedback Data: Retained for up to 24 months after submission, then deleted. Attached screenshots and videos are automatically deleted from our systems 90 days after submission
4. Third-Party Services
The app uses the following third-party services:
4.1 Al Adhan API (aladhan.com)
- Purpose: Calculate Islamic prayer times
- Data Sent: Your latitude and longitude coordinates
- Data Received: Prayer times, Hijri calendar dates
- Note:This is the app's default source for prayer times. The app can also calculate prayer times entirely on your device — you can select this under Settings, and the app falls back to it automatically if the service cannot be reached. When prayer times are calculated on your device, your coordinates are not sent anywhere for this purpose.
- Privacy Policy: aladhan.com/privacy-policy
4.2 OpenStreetMap Nominatim
- Purpose: Reverse geocoding (convert your GPS coordinates to a city/country name) and forward geocoding (search for cities when setting a manual location)
- Data Sent: Your latitude and longitude coordinates, or your city search text
- Data Received: City name, country name, coordinates
- Privacy Policy: wiki.osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy
4.3 Photon by Komoot
- Purpose: Reverse geocoding fallback (used only if Nominatim is unavailable)
- Data Sent: Your latitude and longitude coordinates
- Data Received: City name, country name
- Privacy Policy: komoot.com/privacy
4.4 Map Providers (Qibla Live Map)
- Purpose:Draw the map shown in the Qibla screen's live map view
- Data Sent: The area of the map being displayed, which is based on the location you are viewing. Standard web request information (such as your IP address) is visible to these providers, as with any web request. Your identity and your device identifier are not sent.
- Data Received: Map imagery and map software
- Providers: OpenFreeMap (openfreemap.org), Esri / ArcGIS Online (esri.com privacy), and unpkg (unpkg.com), which serves the map software itself
- Your choice: This only happens when you open the live map view on the Qibla screen. The Qibla compass itself works without it.
4.5 AeroDataBox (Flight Prayer Times)
- Purpose:Look up a flight's route so prayer times can be shown along it
- Data Sent: The flight number and date you enter. The request goes first to a service operated by Noor23, which forwards it to AeroDataBox. Your identity, your location, and your device identifier are not sent.
- Data Received: Flight route and schedule information
- Privacy Policy: aerodatabox.com/privacy
4.6 YouTube (Learn Tab)
- Purpose: Show Islamic education videos in the Learn tab, along with their thumbnails and display information
- Data Sent:To fetch a video's display information and thumbnail, only the video's public ID is sent — never your location, identity, or device identifier.
- Important:If you play a video, it is played by YouTube's own player inside the app. At that point YouTube is handling the playback directly and may receive information about your device and set cookies, under Google's privacy policy rather than ours. We do not control what YouTube collects during playback.
- Privacy Policy: policies.google.com/privacy
4.7 Qur'an Content Providers (Not Yet Available)
The Qur'an reading and recitation feature is not available in this version of the app. It is disclosed here in advance so you know what it will do before you ever use it. When it is released, it will work as follows:
- Purpose:Download Qur'an text, translations, and recitation audio that you choose to read or listen to
- Data Sent: Which surah, verse, translation, or reciter you requested. Standard web request information (such as your IP address) is visible to these providers. Your identity, your location, and your device identifier are not sent.
- Data Received:Qur'an text, translations, and audio files
- Providers: AlQuran Cloud (alquran.cloud), QuranEnc (quranenc.com), and Islamic Network (islamic.network)
- Your choice: Nothing is downloaded unless you open the feature and choose content to read or listen to.
4.8 Apple and Google Platform Services
- Purpose:Location services and in-app purchases on your device's platform
- Note on notifications: Five Prayers uses local notifications only — prayer alerts and reminders are scheduled and delivered by your own device. There is no push notification server, and we do not receive any notification token or know when a notification is delivered to you.
- Note on purchases: If you choose to support the app or buy an optional extra, the purchase is processed entirely by Apple or Google. We never receive your payment details.
- Data Handling:Subject to the platform's privacy policy
- Privacy Policies: Apple · Google
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties.
We may share information only in the following circumstances:
- Third-Party Services: As described in Section 4 — location coordinates with prayer time and geocoding services, map areas with map providers, and flight details with the flight data provider
- Legal Requirements: If required by law, court order, or governmental authority
- Feedback Submissions: When you voluntarily submit feedback, it is transmitted to our feedback processing service (a Noor23-operated endpoint hosted on Cloudflare)
6. Your Rights and Choices
6.1 Location Services
You can disable location access at any time through your device's Settings. If disabled:
- You can manually enter your city for prayer times
- Qibla direction may require manual location entry
- The app will use your last known location if available
6.2 Notifications
You can disable notifications through your device's Settings or within the app's notification settings. These are local notifications scheduled by your device.
6.3 Data Deletion
You can delete all your prayer data at any time using the "Erase All Prayer Records" option in Settings. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data.
6.4 Data Export
You can export all your prayer data using the "Export Prayer Data" feature in Settings.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:
